There has been significant drop-off in the number of residential units being developed since 1990.

As one can see from most of the demographics (excluding the population growth) this is statistically, a slowly deteriorating community. All this is starting to turn around with county and state programs in conjunction with the Lansdowne Improvement Association. And Leadership Through Athletics is no different. We are looking to make this a better community.

With the rate of the single mothers on the rise (52.1% increase since 1990), we believe that this will be the type of family that will benefit the most from our services. We will be able to provide the children with a safe place to learn from our programs, with strong male role models, as mentors and advocates. This will indirectly help the single mothers by giving them more time to concentrate on their family, while giving them a chance to participate with their child in our programs.

Leadership Through Athletics will focus on one of the bright spots in the demographics. The most positive demographic that shows the need for this facility to be built in Lansdowne is the 9.2% increase in population since 1990 in people 18 years or younger. And more significantly, there has been a 13.7% increase in our key targeted demographic of ages between 4-17 years of age. This trend will continue according to the census projections. The census also projects that there will be a rise in the already elevated population density (people per square mile) in years to come. This shows that our facility and programs can significantly help nurture the future growth of Lansdowne, Maryland.
